Cannabis Email Marketing Strategy: An Operating Framework

Dropper bottle and cannabis leaves on a white marble surface.

A cannabis email marketing strategy should explain how the program will be run, not simply list ideas for more messages. Before production begins, the owner and agency need a shared definition of scope, account readiness, approval responsibility and success.

This guide is an operating framework for that discussion. It is distinct from a service package: the framework helps your team decide what work is necessary, while a statement of work establishes what the provider will actually deliver.

Start with account prerequisites

Identify the business owner of the account, the people authorized to work in it and the sources of approved brand assets. Review what records exist for audience permissions, exclusions and prior activity. Record questions that require platform support or qualified review instead of treating account access as proof that everything is ready.

Account cleanup deserves its own scope. List the items to inspect, the proposed changes, the required approvals and what will remain untouched. Preserve a record of the starting state so later decisions can be explained.

Define the production agreement

For each workstream, assign an input owner, a production owner and a final approver. Establish how the team will handle missing information, conflicting feedback and changes after approval. Agree on which types of work require a new brief rather than an informal addition to the calendar.

A manageable plan includes creative production, account maintenance, review time and reporting. Reserve space for corrections. A calendar that assumes every draft will be approved immediately is a fragile operating plan.

Use specialist guides for deeper decisions

Make reporting a decision tool

Agree in advance on the reporting period, source systems and limitations. Include completed work and unresolved account issues alongside performance measures. Each review should end with a named owner for the next action, rather than a longer list of charts.

Hiigher’s current services cover managed AIQ, email, SMS, retention, creative and account cleanup. Use those boundaries to decide what to delegate and what your internal team still needs to own. No channel removes the need for approvals, maintenance or realistic expectations.
