The Strategic Email Brief: Decisions Before Production

Hands rolling ground cannabis in paper beside a grinder.

For a cannabis retailer or brand using AIQ, an email strategy becomes practical when it resolves decisions before production begins. A useful brief tells the team why the work exists, what information supports it and how the business will judge the result.

This framework focuses on one assignment or workstream. Use it alongside a broader operating plan rather than expecting a single brief to replace account documentation, service scope or approval policy.

Define the decision the work supports

State the business purpose in one or two sentences. Then describe the approved communication requirement and any known constraints. Avoid a vague instruction such as improve engagement without explaining what the business needs to learn or accomplish.

Include what is outside scope. If the assignment is email creative, make clear whether account cleanup, additional reporting or other channel work requires a separate decision.

Document evidence and assumptions

List the sources for factual statements and the information the business must still confirm. Separate observed account data from expectations. Where a claim cannot be substantiated, remove it or label the underlying question for investigation.

If the brief uses an audience definition, record the basis for that definition and the responsible reviewer. The audience segmentation guide provides context for documenting those decisions without treating a platform label as a complete explanation.

Assign the necessary responsibilities

Name the person who supplies inputs, the production owner, required reviewers and final approver. Specify where consolidated feedback will be recorded. Include the dependency that would cause the assignment to pause, such as unresolved facts or missing approval.

Use capacity planning to check that the proposed schedule matches those people’s availability. A brief is incomplete when it assigns responsibilities to people who cannot perform them in the planned window.

Write a learning plan before the report

State the question being evaluated and the evidence that would help answer it. If comparing versions or periods, document the differences and relevant limitations. Avoid changing several conditions and then attributing the entire result to one creative choice.

Decide what counts as an inconclusive result. Small or incomplete observations should remain inconclusive rather than being turned into a strong recommendation.

Close with the next decision

Specify who reviews the findings and how they will decide whether to repeat, revise or stop the work. Use ROI measurement guidance when financial claims are involved. Hiigher’s current services establish the delivery boundaries within which the brief can be carried out.
