When cannabis educational content references a certificate of analysis, the agency should treat it as source material to verify, not as a shortcut to a safety or product-performance claim. The marketing team’s role is to keep the reference accurate, traceable and within its expertise.
Ask for the correct source document
Obtain the document from the responsible client contact and confirm that it is the intended reference for the article. Record the document date, source and any identifying context needed by the reviewer. If there are conflicting versions or missing pages, pause the affected statements until the discrepancy is resolved.
Do not infer that a document applies to every product or batch. Ask the responsible specialist to verify the relationship between the reference and the material being described.
Assign technical interpretation to a qualified reviewer
A copywriter can organize a clear explanation, but technical interpretation may require laboratory, regulatory or other professional expertise. Identify that reviewer before drafting claims about a test result or its significance.
Keep the distinction between what the document reports and what the business wants to communicate. A result should not be expanded into a blanket safety guarantee, a promise of effects or individualized health advice.
Keep the wording proportionate to the evidence
Use plain language and preserve limitations. Where the source does not answer a question, say so rather than filling the gap with promotional language. If further research is needed, return that question to the reviewer instead of using a marketing generalization.
Check presentation and links
Make the source reference easy to identify and ensure that the link reaches the intended document. Confirm permission before publishing a document that is not already authorized for public sharing. Do not place private customer information or account credentials in the editorial workflow.
Review labels and images as well as body copy. A caption can overstate the evidence even when the paragraph is carefully qualified.
Retain the approval record
Save the source version, reviewer’s decision and approved wording together. Recheck the reference when the source changes. The broader marketing approval workflow should make those responsibilities visible.
Hiigher can support content planning, copy and design. Scientific interpretation and medical or legal advice remain outside that marketing scope. For related boundaries, see our educational content review guide.
